Diary, 1899 Oct. 9-1904 Feb. 8.

Ryno's diary begins with the preparations for the move from Indian Territory to Roslyn, Wash. The diary contains nearly daily entries detailing life in this small coal-mining town. There are frequent descriptions of the weather, but she also writes about her own apparently serious health problems as well as those of her family; the son's injuries in the coal mines, the husband's drinking problems; and the doctor's remedies. The tasks of everyday life, canning, sewing, cleaning, and cooking, are described. The prices of produce and dry goods are frequently quoted. Fires, deaths, and social and other events in Roslyn and Cle Elum are also included. There is the occasional comment on national events, such as the death of President McKinley in 1901.
